Bass recorder after P. Bressan
This anonymous bass is identical to the basses that were built in the workshop of P. Bressan. At present it is part of the Bate collection in Oxford, where I have been able to play this and other flutes. Especially the rich and powerful tone justifies to make a ‘copy', not without some adjustments of course. It has an extendable support on the foot, wich gives extra resonance to the bottom notes and allows a good playing position both standing or sitting. The tone holes are easy to reach, even for people with small hands. The original has a single silver key. The standard tuning of the instrument is tuned at a' = 415 Hertz, wich is higher than the original (about 394 Hertz). It has double bored tone holes and a modern English fingering. On request it can be tuned at the authentic a' = 392 Hertz. A version with single bored tone holes and historical fingering is possible. The metal (keys and S-tube) are delivered in brass, silver-plated brass, or against extra charge in solid silver. A split key for F and F-sharp is possible against extra charge.Image
