alto recorder after I. Heitz (original) |
In the collection of Frans Brüggen we can find this boxwood recorder, beautifully ornamented with ivory and tortoiseshell. There are more of these instruments covered with tortoiseshell and ivory, all made by Johann Heitz with superb craftsmanship. A similar alto is in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. My copy closely follows the original, except for the tuning which is at a' = 407 Hertz. The recorder distinguishes itself from others by a very fast speech with great precision, a clear, very colourful tone throughout the entire register and a great stability in tuning and pitch. The instrument is tuned to a' = 415 Hertz and has double bored tone holes with modern English fingering. This special' copy is, as the original made with 10 imitation ivory rings. Mammoth ivory can be ordered at extra cost, and for the small mounts tagua (a natural substitute for ivory) can be used. Our most successfull recorder that has gone to musicians all over the world is the double' model with an extra center joint for a' = 440 Hertz. For a version without the 10 rings, or with standard 4 mounts on head and foot click here. It is also possible to have copy made with single bored tone holes and historical fingering, in either the original pitch at 407 Hertz, or at a' = 415 Hertz. |
