baroque flute after J. Hotteterre
The only early baroque flute by Hotteterre known to me is kept in the Landesmuseum in Graz. It's probably built round 1700 and the pitch is about a'= 400 Hertz. In Leningrad and Berlin there are similar instruments, but these could be much later copies of a Hotteterre flute. The original is a very special instrument with a nice deep sound. My copie is as faithful to this flute as possible. The player will have no trouble in making himself well audible together with other instruments, even in larger ensembles, and even in the low register. It is perfect for early french music, with a great ease of play, even in the more "difficult" scales. The pitch has been lowered to a standard 392 Hertz. It has one silver key and artificial, mammoth ivory or wooden mounts and ring with the typical Hotteterre design.Image
