baroque flute after F.G.A. Kirst |
From the workshop of F.G.A. Kirst in Potsdam comes this beautiful instrument, that is kept this moment in a very small private collection in ‘s Hertogenbosch, Holland. The flute is in good condition and has not been altered in any way. This remarkable original was played a lot in the late 18th and 19th century, but was left to rest from there until today. The dark stained boxwood flute, from the second half of the 18th century, ornamented with ivory rings speaks very easily, has a warm rich and powerful tone and is well in tune. The pitch a' is about 418 Hertz. My copy is exactly the same, especially the embouchure was not changed, so to fully keep it's wonderful tonal qualities. Only the basic pitch has been brought down to 415 Hertz, and some slight adjustments have been made to the tuning, to adapt it to more modern ears and demands. The flute has a strong presence due to it's tone and oval embouchure when it's being played in larger ensembles. The traverso is delivered with one center joint in the usual a'= 415 pitch. Extra corps de rechange with pitches 420, 430, en 440 Hertz are available at extra charge. The instrument can also be fitted with a corkscrew and register. The boxwood flute can be acid stained to the original colour, no extra charge when ordering. |
