basset recorder after C. Rafi |
This bass is kept together with the tenor by P. Grece in the collection of the Accademia Filarmonica in Bologna. The original is a bas(set) in g, without a key, but because of its length in F, I have changed the model and added a key for the bottom note, with a barrel. The pitch is in F, at a'= 440 Hertz, or 466 Hertz. It is a powerful sounding bass, with a characteristic extra "noise". The bore is just as narrow as the original, and the recorder has a relatively small labium. The speech is fast, with the same organ-like quality and "chiff" of the Grece tenor recorder. The tone is full and warm, especially when the instrument is made of yew wood (same price as plumwood), and has sometimes more characteristics of a soloinstrument. The key is made of brass. For a more playing ease, it can also be delivered with a brass S-tube (extra charge), but with it's original mouthpiece the sound is better. The instrument will be delivered in a soft cover, with oil, and cork-grease, and with thread-covered or corked joints. If you order a whole consort it is possible to have the instruments in
a fitted case, made by Patrick & Celine Lecomte of Bracieux,
France. |
