Tenor recorder after I. Rottenburgh
The instruments of Jean-Hyacinth Joseph Rottenburgh (Brussels, 1672-1765) reached an exceptionally high level of perfection during the makers' long life. Many of his recorders, flutes and oboes have survived in private collections and museums in, among others, Berlin, Brussels, The Hague and Stockholm. One of his three sons, Godefroid Adrien Joseph, also was an exceptionally good flute maker. To make this I.H.I. Rottenburgh tenor recorder I used examples of two of his originals, a recorder of the collection out of the museum in Berlin and one out of the museum in Brussels, and combined their qualities. The head has been copied without changes because of its beautiful sound. I made this recorder in cooperation with professional recorder players. The normal pitch of the instrument is 440 Hertz, instead of the original 403 Hertz. It has modern English fingering, double bored tone holes, without keys. On request it can be made with single bored tone holes, historical fingering. If you want keys on the foot, please indicate this when ordering. The same instrument tuned in 415 Hertz sounds more rich and sonorous. It is certainly worth trying. On request it can be delivered with single or double bored tone holes, modern English or historical fingering and with or without keys.Image
