baroque flute after I. Rottenburgh |
This meanwhile very well known instrument is currently in the possession of B. Kuyken. Rottenburgh made this flute probably in the later period of his life. It has become one of the most copied baroque flutes. Of course this is not without reason; it is beyond doubt a very nice instrument. It speaks easily in comparison with other baroque flutes. It has a nice intimate tone, warm, and very clear in all registers. For many people this instrument has become their first encounter with the baroque flute, through concert, recording, or lessons. It's widely used among students of the traverso. My copy has, like the original, a round embouchure, and a foot register to accomodate different center joints for different pitches. A special and versatile instrument which is currently being used for a wide range of early music, through many periods. The traverso is delivered with one center joint in the a' = 415 Hertz pitch. An extra center joint is available for a' = 440 Hertz, at a small extra price. The boxwood can be left unstained, or stained at wish. |
